Valley Christian is a perfect 7-0 against Florence since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Trojans will challenge the Gophers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Valley Christian sitting on 12 straight victories and Florence on five.
Valley Christian proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Crismon, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since March 19th.
The team relied heavily on Brock Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Florence got themselves on the board against Blue Ridge on Thursday, but Blue Ridge never followed suit. They blew past the Yellow Jackets 10-0.
Adrian Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Wyatt Stenson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. Logan Stenson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Florence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blue Ridge only posted an OBP of .250.
Valley Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Florence, their record is now 17-6-2.
Florence's pitching crew better be locked in on Monday. Valley Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. It's a different story for Florence, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Valley Christian in the park?
Everything went Valley Christian's way against Florence in their previous matchup on April 3rd, as Valley Christian made off with a 16-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
