Basketball Recap: Overton Comes Up Short

Overton was the 55-49 winner over Axtell when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Overton Eagles took a 75-60 bruising from the Axtell Wildcats on Friday. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Despite the loss, Overton still got an impressive performance from Eli Luther, who posted 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Luther's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock McCarter, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Jacob Halvorsen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Axtell, dropping a double-double on 36 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Halvorsen is now averaging an impressive 18 points per game. Cade Axtell was another key player, putting up 16 points and six rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Overton fell to 2-1. As for Axtell, they moved to 1-3 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Overton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-36 victory against Southern Valley on the 14th. As for Axtell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-21 win against Harvard on the 14th.
