Basketball Recap: Ceiba College Preparatory Academy Comes Up Short

Ceiba College Preparatory Academy scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They were dealt an 88-50 loss at the hands of the York Falcons. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Ceiba College Preparatory Academy lost, don't look at Anthony Toriz. Despite the final result, he posted 33 points along with five assists and three steals. Toriz's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Juan Jimenez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Toriz wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Ceiba College Preparatory Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Gianni Zeljo was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards for York. Zeljo has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Tsuchitani, who went 5 for 9 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Ceiba College Preparatory Academy's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5. As for York, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-4.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Anzar the next time they take the court. Ceiba College Preparatory Academy will host Anzar at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while York will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
