The Spanish Fork Dons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Springville. Spanish Fork has struggled against Springville recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Spanish Fork saw an underclassman step up: Gage Christensen scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Christensen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Austin Weekes, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamyn Sondrup, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Sondrup is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last five games he's played. Mason Hansen was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six assists.
Spanish Fork has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for Springville, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spanish Fork will take on Wasatch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Spanish Fork is on a three-game streak of home losses, Wasatch a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Springville will take on Orem at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Orem's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matchups.
