The Bothell Cougars will take on the Ballard Beavers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bothell has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bothell came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 20-3 to Issaquah. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.
Kolbi Schmer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Ballard put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Holy Names Academy 17-7. The Beavers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Alexa Hunt made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hunt was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wren Wald, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Morris, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Ballard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Ballard pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bothell, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Bothell skirted past Ballard 7-5 in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Does Bothell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ballard turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
