Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Garret Hopkins, who rushed for 150 yards and two scores. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 150 rushing yards. Another back making a difference was Joshua McDonald, who rushed for 86 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Jase Michael for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mantachie didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.
Meanwhile, Kossuth had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 40-28 win over the Cardinals.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Eli Tays and Kylei Estes. Tays had a great game and rushed for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Estes did his best for the losing side, rushing for 92 yards and one score.
Kossuth's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Mantachie, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mantachie has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 254.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kossuth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 250.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mantachie was dealt a bruising 48-14 loss at the hands of Kossuth in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Mustangs were down 42-7.
