Lafayette has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Benton Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lafayette scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 76-40 win over Savannah at home. That looming 76-40 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Lafayette yet this season.
Meanwhile, Benton had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.4 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They managed a 50-44 win over Chillicothe.
Lafayette pushed their record up to 5-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Benton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Lafayette didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Cardinals in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 71-65 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lafayette since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
