It was a perfect week for the MaxPreps power rankings: not a single team changed position in spite of last week's action. A special shoutout goes to Bethany's junior Sam Brandt, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
No Stoppin 'Em
The Midwest City offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. It took its game against Sapulpa by a confident 56 - 35 score. Midwest City did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. The combined 91 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Edmond Santa Fe (13th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Union (3rd). Edmond Santa Fe suffered a grim 31 - 6 defeat to Union. Despite the loss, Edmond Santa Fe maintained its position in the power rankings.
Can't Touch This
Bethany managed to bank 339 more yards than its opponent Weatherford last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Bethany blew past Weatherford 38 - 13. Bethany gave the Weatherford offensive line some real trouble with five sacks (and will no doubt be looking to keep the pressure on Wagoner this Friday). Sam Brandt deserves a lot of credit in the win. He rushed for 172 yards and threw for three touchdowns, a performance good enough to make him one of the top players in the power rankings last week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Stillwater (5th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Washington (9th). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Stillwater and Washington can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
