The Cardinal Newman Crusaders are taking a road trip to take on the West Broward Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Cardinal Newman: 1.8, West Broward: 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
West Broward will be up against a hot Cardinal Newman team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Cardinal Newman came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against North Broward Prep.
Blake Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Anderson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Finn Duran was excellent, scoring three runs while going 1-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Gabriel Acevedo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first hits of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Broward). They blew past JC Bermudez Doral 13-4 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.
West Broward also got a great performance from Braden Aguila as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Manuel Sarcos was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Anthony Sanchez, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.
West Broward always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as JC Bermudez Doral only posted an OBP of .323.
West Broward's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Cardinal Newman, their record is now 4-0-1.
