Basketball Recap: Javonte Simpson-Lee Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Tohopekaliga

There's no place like home for Poinciana, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They put the hurt on the Tohopekaliga Tigers with a sharp 74-50 victory on Monday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while the Tigers are ranked 470th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Poinciana's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Javonte Simpson-Lee led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Simpson-Lee is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Elijah Burnham, who posted 15 points and seven boards.

Poinciana's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Tohopekaliga, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poinciana will head out to challenge Dr. Phillips at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dr. Phillips has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-3 during that stretch of close contests. As for Tohopekaliga, they are taking a road trip to square off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Liberty is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.6 points per game this season.
