After a string of three wins, the Wray Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to Denver Christian. Wray was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Denver Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Wray lost, one person who can't be blamed is AB Ruiz. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Ruiz hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Alex Trejo, who scored eight points.
Wray's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Denver Christian, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Wray will take on Caliche at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caliche will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 254th, while Wray is ranked 83rd). As for Denver Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Front Range Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Front Range Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
