The Topeka Trojans came into Saturday's contest having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past West with a 53-47 win on Saturday. Topeka's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Despite the loss, West still got an impressive performance from Zoe Clark, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Clark scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Rebecca Bearman, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Topeka's victory bumped their record up to 3-9. As for West, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Topeka and the Spartans will face off on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Emporia presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Trojans in Kansas (the Spartans are ranked fifth, while the Trojans are ranked 197th). West is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Lions at 5:45 p.m. on January 30th. Lansing has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
