The Piedra Vista Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Farmington Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Piedra Vista will be strutting in after a win while Farmington will be coming in after a defeat.
Piedra Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Rio Rancho, who was ranked 12th at the time (Piedra Vista was ranked 15th). The Panthers put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 21-5 victory on Friday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by ten runs or more this season.

MICHAELA PEREA

03/21/24 vs Bloomfield | 3 |

The team relied heavily on MICHAELA PEREA, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. KAITLYN TAFOYA was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
PEREA wasn't the only one making solid contact: Piedra Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Farmington came up short against Cibola on Friday and fell 7-2. The Scorpions haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Ashlynn Sandoval spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Farmington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taelor Joe, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Piedra Vista has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Farmington, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Piedra Vista has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Piedra Vista was able to grind out a solid victory over Farmington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 18-13. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scorpions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
