The V.R. Eaton Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Keller Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. V.R. Eaton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
V.R. Eaton easily dispatched Trinity on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Eagles fell just short of Timber Creek by a score of 14-12 on Tuesday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Eagles, who until this matchup were averaging 3.93 runs allowed.
Jordan Jameson was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Maddy Marr was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Timber Creek typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Keller proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Indians have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Keller let Sydona Meiser and Mackenna Jackson run wild. Meiser got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Jackson got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Jackson a new career-high. Lauren Kavanaugh also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Keller kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive contests.
Keller has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for V.R. Eaton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 20-8-1 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. V.R. Eaton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Keller struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
V.R. Eaton beat Keller 13-9 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
