The Delran Bears are taking a road trip to square off against the West Deptford Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Delran knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully West Deptford likes a good challenge.
Delran is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-18 victory over Overbrook. The Bears pushed the score to 28-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rams cut but never quite recovered from.
Delran had a senior duo take command as Vinny Sacca rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries and Justin Mary picked up 93 receiving yards and one TD. Mary really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 73 yards.
Delran was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 220 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Delran, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mary, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, West Deptford entered their tilt with Eastside on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They took down the Tigers 30-15. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly 15 points.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Zamir Davis and Cole Paskiewicz. Davis rushed for 117 yards and three scores while Paskiewicz rushed for 96 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing touchdowns Davis has posted since back in September.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to West Deptford's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Al Dayrell was the leader with two.
Delran's record now sits at 9-1. As for West Deptford, their record is now an identical 9-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Delran has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like West Deptford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 286.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Delran strolled past West Deptford when the teams last played back in October of 2023 by a score of 28-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
