Meanwhile, Cuthbertson beat Central Academy 5-2 on Tuesday.
Georgia McConnell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caroline Petroff, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emma Jarrett, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Cuthbertson pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for South Mecklenburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Mecklenburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Cuthbertson struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Mecklenburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Cuthbertson in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Sabres repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
