Banning has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Crenshaw Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Banning rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Dymally at home to the tune of 49-6. With Banning ahead 28-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Robert Guerrero was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 41 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 79 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Steven Perez, who gained 93 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Crenshaw waltzed into Friday's match with five straight wins but they left with six. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Franklin. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Crenshaw was the (much) better team in the second half.
Banning now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Crenshaw, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Banning strolled past Crenshaw when the teams last played back in November of 2019 by a score of 35-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for Banning since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
