Baseball Game Preview: Apex Cougars vs. Southern Lee Cavaliers

The Apex Cougars will be taking part in a tournament against the Southern Lee Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Apex will be strutting in after a victory while Southern Lee will be coming in after a loss.

Apex proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Heritage 3-1.

Apex got a great performance from JUSTIN DAVIS as he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. DAVIS has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, COLESON PARTEL was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was JAY HALE, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, Southern Lee finally came back down to earth on Wednesday. They fell 4-1 to Rolesville. The Cavaliers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Christian Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Southern Lee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Stephens, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Apex's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Southern Lee, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Apex has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Southern Lee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
