Baseball Recap: Flagstaff Beats Coconino for Their Third Straight Victory

Flagstaff not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 10-1). Everything went their way against the Coconino Panthers as they made off with an 8-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Iniguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Will Carpenter was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Brody Johnson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Flagstaff was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are 11-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win (which was Flagstaff's third in a row) raised their record to 17-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Coconino, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15-1 record this season.

Flagstaff will be playing in front of their home fans against Goldwater at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Eagles' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Bulldogs have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Coconino, they will take on Mingus at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Marauders have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
