Bellville has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Wharton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Bellville suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Royal, falling 70-32. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bellville has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Wharton didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Sealy on Wednesday, but they still walked away with a 55-49 victory. The win was just what Wharton needed coming off of a 78-48 defeat in their prior match.
Wharton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angell Gaona, Jr. led the charge by scoring 18 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gaona, Jr. has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacoryan Dickerson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Bellville bumped their record down to 4-6 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Wharton, their win bumped their record up to 9-15.
Bellville was able to grind out a solid victory over Wharton in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 67-56. Does Bellville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wharton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
