The Concord Academy Eagles came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Gaston Day 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Concord Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sean Birmingham, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Benham, who scored 16 points.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braylen Todd, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Deshawn Coulter was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Concord Academy's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-14. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Gaston Day, their loss dropped their record down to 18-12.
Concord Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gaston Day also has no future games currently scheduled.
