Softball Recap: Northern Wins Going Away Against Lackey

Northern won the last time they faced Lackey and things went their way on Friday too. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Chargers. Considering the Patriots have won four matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Avery Russell was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brooke MacAulay, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Northern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Northern and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Lackey, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Northern is set to square off against their familiar foe McDonough at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Lackey will challenge rival St. Charles on Monday.
