Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 21 to 7 on the offensive boards, a fact the Leonardtown Raiders proved on Friday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 54-17 blowout they got on the road against McDonough. For Leonardtown, this counts as revenge for the 52-49 defeat McDonough walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Among those leading the charge was Teonne Thomas, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Alaina Burks, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Despite the defeat, McDonough saw an underclassman step up: Jalynn Rosier scored nine points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rosier has scored all season.
Leonardtown now has a winning record of 5-4. As for McDonough, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leonardtown will take on Huntingtown at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Huntingtown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Monday. As for McDonough, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Mills is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
