D1 District 9 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012
Alma's Brady Stuhmer rumbled for the longest rushing play in D1 District 9 (8 Man) this season in his game against Southwest last week. Stuhmer's team topped the Roughriders as he sprinted for 69 yards on the play and finished with 105 in all.
Elm Creek suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 28-20 loss to Elm Creek. The Buffaloes had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 26 following the defeat.
Alma's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Stuhmer threw for 185 and two touchdowns and Jarrod Bantam had 79 yards receiving. Chris Simmons helped Alma's passing attack out by catching three balls for 60 yards.
Gage Schutz made the biggest impact on defense this week as Arapahoe beat Overton. The senior forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
Isaac Frecks's team's Stuhmer and Bantam have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Stuhmer has thrown for 771 yards this season, while Bantam, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 16 catches for 390 yards. Caden Weverka from the Warriors leads the league in rushing with 674 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Arapahoe takes on the Cardinals. As it stands, Dustin Sealey's team is in first, while Alma is in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when the Warriors and the Cardinals face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Arapahoe comes in having scored 297 this season, while Alma has scored 164. The Warriors scored 28 points last week as they defeated the Eagles.
The Cardinals led D1 District 9 (8 Man) in scoring this week after putting up 50 points on Southwest. Stuhmer in the win.
