The Bunn Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Princeton Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bunn is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
On Thursday, Bunn made easy work of Louisburg and carried off a 13-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won ten matchups by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
MaKayla McDonald spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Bunn let Mely Baez and Peyton Alford run wild. Baez went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Alford went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Baez has posted since back in March. Payton Wood was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Bunn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive games.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Monday. Princeton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Nash Central. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Princeton has posted since March 26, 2024.
Chloe Herring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Khloe Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
The victory was the third in a row for Princeton, bringing their record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Bunn, their record now sits at 13-3.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bunn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Princeton struggles in that department as they've averaged .400. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bunn was able to grind out a solid victory over Princeton when the teams last played back in March, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
