The Atkins Camels scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They secured a 76-70 W over Rockingham County. The win was just what Atkins needed coming off of a 91-58 loss in their prior match.
Kaleb Roope was his usual excellent self, scoring 32 points. Those 32 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Laithan Atkins, who scored 14 points.
Rockingham County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dalton Johnson, who scored 31 points along with nine assists and eight rebounds. The match was Johnson's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Rumbley, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds.
Atkins' victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10. As for Rockingham County, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Atkins will head out on the road to face off against Southern Guilford at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Guilford will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Rockingham County will take on Eastern Guilford at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
