Basketball Recap: Wray's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Wray lost against Brush back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wray Eagles fell 43-35 to the Brush Beetdiggers.

Despite the loss, Wray still got an impressive performance from Aaron Tena, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. The match was Tena's third in a row with at least 17 points. Wyatt Fonte was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wray smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brush only three offensive boards.

Brush got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Thatcher Queen out in front who posted nine points and five steals. Queen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexander Aguilar Saucedo, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 14 points and six boards.

Wray's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points over those games. As for Brush, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-12.

Wray and Brush are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Wray will challenge The Vanguard School at 7:30 p.m. on March 7th. Wray will be up against The Vanguard School's rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.62 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Brush, they will take on Forge Christian at 5:00 p.m. on March 7th. Forge Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Brush likes a good challenge.
