The Columbus Falcons and the New Albany Bulldogs will round out the year against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Columbus scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Neshoba Central by a score of 87-79. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, New Albany didn't have too much trouble with Amory on the road on Tuesday as they won 67-50. Given New Albany's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Amory is ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Albany found their leader in underclassman Braden Shettles, who scored 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Issac Gilbert, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Columbus' win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for New Albany, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Columbus took their victory against New Albany when the teams last played back in November of 2014 by a conclusive 80-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbus since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
