Two dominant signal callers in Jacob Janecek and Maguire Gasperson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lovejoy Leopards will square off against the Argyle Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lovejoy is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Memorial: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Leopards blew the Warriors out of the water with a 49-0 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Leopards' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Warriors are ranked 666th).

Zach Jones continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 214 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries, while also catching one TD. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 101.3 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Brody Hesson, who picked up 99 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Lovejoy proved: they limited Memorial to a paltry 0.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Braydon Gills for the heroic effort on defense: he. That's the most yards per carry they've posted since back in September.
Lovejoy's defense didn't let Benjamin Wilson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Argyle waltzed into their contest on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They blew past the Cougars 56-14. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.
Argyle's win came from a few key players Lovejoy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryan Nelson, who rushed for 46 yards and two scores. Logan Rexroat was in the mix as well, providing Argyle with two TDs.
Lovejoy's record is now 6-4. As for Argyle, their record now sits at 9-1.
Lovejoy suffered a grim 42-17 defeat to Argyle when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gasperson, who threw for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes, and also rushed for 41 yards and one score. Now that the Leopards know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
