The Bradford Tornadoes will venture away from home to take on the Gainesville Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bradford has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Gainesville will come in with four straight victories.
Bradford fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against ED White on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Commanders by a score of 4-3.
Patrick Pendarvis was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Cannon Sapp was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one double.
Meanwhile, Gainesville got the win against Oak Hall on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-5. The Hurricanes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Taylor Brewer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Yunel Rojas and Chris Eckhardt did most of the damage at the plate: Rojas got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Eckhardt went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run. With that strong performance, Eckhardt is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Diego Barranco, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Gainesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .520 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Gainesville's record now sits at 9-6. As for Bradford, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bradford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gainesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bradford beat Gainesville 6-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tornadoes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
