The Iola Mustangs fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Burlington Wildcats on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Wildcats 58-53. Iola has not had much luck with Burlington recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Iola lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cortland Carson, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. The match was Carson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Landon Weide was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
Iola's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Burlington, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Iola is on the road again on Thursday and play against Prairie View at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Burlington will be home for the holidays to greet Wellsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wellsville is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
