The Southwood Knights waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 49-36 victory over Peru. That's another feather in the cap for Southwood, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Southwood was led to victory by Hali Pershing and Gracie Lambert. Pershing scored 13 points along with five rebounds, while Lambert scored 13 points along with two steals.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacey Boswell, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Boswell posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylene Kirk, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Peru smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Southwood's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-11. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Peru, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwood will take on Maconaquah at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Peru, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Pioneer at 7:45 p.m.
