The Aquin Catholic Bulldogs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against Stockton by a score of 51-38. Given Aquin Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Blackhawks are ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aquin Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paityn London, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. London is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Carlisle, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Stockton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madie Mammoser. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 44.7% of Stockton's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Taylor Haas was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Aquin Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Stockton, they now have a losing record at 12-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aquin Catholic will face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Durand has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19. As for Stockton, they will head out on the road to square off against the Thunder at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Carroll is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home.
