Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Trenton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Chiefland 9-1 on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason VunCannon and Noah Owens were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, VunCannon struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Owens pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, VunCannon scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Owens went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Pierson Weatherilt was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Brock Petrello also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Trenton pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Fe, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.
