Del Norte has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the La Jolla Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Del Norte rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Pointers.
Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. All those points came courtesy of Trey Coleman: he added nine points with three field goals.
Meanwhile, La Jolla had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.3 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They blew past Rancho Bernardo 42-14 on the road. Considering La Jolla has won five contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson Diehl continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 131 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Diehl is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aidan Mcgill, who rushed for 148 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to La Jolla's defense and their three sacks. Sawyer Moseley was especially locked on to Rancho Bernardo's QB and sacked him twice.
Del Norte's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for La Jolla, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Del Norte came up short against La Jolla in their previous matchup back in September of 2022, falling 27-20. Can Del Norte avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
