It was a good run, but the South Guilford HomeSchool Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 70-59 defeat to State Line HomeSchool R. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, South Guilford HomeSchool still got an impressive performance from Kassidy Bullins, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bullins has scored all season. Kailey Bullins was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, South Guilford HomeSchool smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as State Line HomeSchool R only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Aden Clark was her usual excellent self, scoring 38 points along with seven assists and four steals for State Line HomeSchool R. Clark also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Emily Vaughan, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
South Guilford HomeSchool's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-5. As for State Line HomeSchool R, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
South Guilford HomeSchool will head out on the road to square off against Community Baptist at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Community Baptist will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 505th, while South Guilford HomeSchool is ranked 161st). As for State Line HomeSchool R, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Greater Cabarrus S at 6:00 p.m. Greater Cabarrus S is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
