The Swan Valley Vikings will face off against the Durand Railroaders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Swan Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
While Swan Valley's win against Heritage wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Hawks 6-4. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Mia Robinson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Izzy Coffel was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Greer Diefenbach also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Durand). They blew past Mt. Morris 19-3 on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Railroaders with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Swan Valley, Durand also got a great game from a two-way player: Kinley Shepard. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Shepard was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Durand got a massive performance out of Kayla Copeland, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Hayli Pugh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Swan Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Durand, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Durand's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Swan Valley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Durand, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Swan Valley's sizable advantage in that area, the Railroaders will need to find a way to close that gap.
