V Section III recap October 8, 2013
Thatcher added to the longest winning streak in V Section III this week by beating Tombstone, 35-27. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Eagles.
Bisbee and Willcox played the closest game in the league this week, with Bisbee eventually emerging with a 30-28 victory.
Heath Motes provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Thatcher bested the Yellow Jackets. He completed 7 passes for 88 yards and also ran for 149 yards. Motes' favorite target this week was Austin Peeler, who caught 3 passes for 38 yards.
Motes made the biggest impact on defense this week as Dave Jefferies' team bested Tombstone. The 5-foot-11 junior grabbed 1 interception.
Travis Barney put up the best numbers in passing as Benson fell to Walden Grove. He finished with a total of 6 completions for 80 yards and 1 touchdown. Barney's favorite target this week was Ross Ens, who caught 3 passes for 32 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Motes of the Eagles is the league leader in passing yards this season with 611. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is William Braswell. The Tombstone star has 13 catches for 231 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Thatcher takes on second place Bisbee. Thatcher defeated Joe Thomas' team last week, while the Pumas topped the Cowboys.
Tanque Verde fell to Morenci 48-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
