Mid-Valley recap Nov. 7, 2012
Hamilton extended the longest winning streak in Mid-Valley this week by beating East Nicolaus, 40-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Braves.
Hamilton moved up to 701 from 728 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Ryan Bentz's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Spartans 40-7.
Quincy's dynamic duo of Matt Beeson and Jerry Oglesby proved tough for Esparto to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Beeson threw for 227 yards and one touchdown and Oglesby had 133 yards receiving. Jack Flanigan helped Quincy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 60 yards.
Andrew Rodriguez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 136 yards on nine carries as Colusa defeated the Spartans. Teammate Conner Herrick added to the ground attack by rushing for 114 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Beeson of Quincy is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1081. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, the RedHawks' Rodriguez has rushed for 1736 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is RJ Phillips. The Colusa star has 24 catches for 535 yards.
Colusa's Herrick needs only 37 yards against Modoc next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 110 carries Herrick has accumulated 963 yard this year.
The Braves made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,718 from 9,985. The improvement was the result of 40-7 victory over East Nicolaus last week.
