This season hasn't been kind to the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos, who are still winless after their fifth game. They took a 61-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tolleson on Tuesday. La Joya Community lost against Tolleson in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 64-52 score last time.
Despite the defeat, La Joya Community had strong showings from Nuul Deng, who scored 11 points along with 9 rebounds, and Makuach Makuei, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Thavarin Ith, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds.
Leading Tolleson to victory were Rico Blassingame and Jahlil Loyd. Blassingame scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, while Loyd scored 22 points along with 9 rebounds. The matchup was Loyd's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tyeshon Howard, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
La Joya Community bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Tolleson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
La Joya Community will be playing at home against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tolleson, they will head out on the road to face off against Desert Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
