The Caston Comets will square off against the Winamac Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Caston 3.9, Winamac 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Caston got the win against Culver Community by a conclusive 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Logan Mollenkopf and Brodie Howard made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Mollenkopf tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Howard tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Mollenkopf got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Howard went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Gavin Mollenkopf was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Eli Holloway, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Winamac came up short against North Miami on Thursday, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for Winamac, who until this matchup were averaging 3.3 runs allowed.
Winamac saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Ulerick, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Luke Clemons was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Caston has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Winamac, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Caston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Winamac struggles in that department as they've averaged .484. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Caston came out on top in a nail-biter against Winamac in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
