The Astoria/VIT Rebels lost against the Illini West Chargers back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Astoria/VIT received a tough blow as they fell 59-44 to Illini West. Astoria/VIT has struggled against Illini West recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Astoria/VIT had strong showings from Nic Huston, who scored 19 points, and Ben Sherrod, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Sherrod's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Haydon Rankin was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Neiderman, who scored 15 points.
Astoria/VIT's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 5-4. As for Illini West, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Astoria/VIT will be home for the holidays to greet Augusta Southeastern at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Illini West will be home for the holidays to greet Clark County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Clark County is ranked 285th in Missouri, while Illini West is ranked 301st in Illinois).
