Western Plains came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past the Cheylin Cougars with a 45-40 win. For the Bobcats, this counts as revenge for the 50-21 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Cheylin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Schoenberger, who posted 15 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Wright, who had 11 points and four steals.

Western Plains' win bumped their record up to 5-1-1. As for Cheylin, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5.

Western Plains will square off against Wheatland-Grinnell at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Western Plains' defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Wheatland-Grinnell's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Cheylin, they will welcome Hi-Plains at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheylin is facing Hi-Plains at the right time seeing as Hi-Plains is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
