Baseball Recap: Skyline's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Skyline's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They blew past the Adams City Eagles 14-4. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their one-run performance the game before.

Matt Lanier made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Lanier was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Skyline: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Bobby Knapp was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Skyline's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-12-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Wyatt Rickman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Skyline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Adams City only posted an OBP of .364.

Skyline's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13-1. As for Adams City, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyline will challenge Holy Family at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Adams City, they will take on Thornton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a 20-game losing streak.
