The Jeff Davis Yellowjackets will be playing at home against the Atkinson County Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Jeff Davis can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 49-10 victory over Wheeler County on the road. The win was just what Jeff Davis needed coming off of a 66-10 defeat in their prior game.
Even though Atkinson County has not done well against Berrien recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Atkinson County walked away with a 69-57 victory over Berrien. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atkinson County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ja'Kari Northcutt, who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamari Moore, who scored 21 points.
Jeff Davis' win bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Atkinson County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Jeff Davis beat Atkinson County 65-56 in their previous meeting back in December of 2015. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Atkinson County's Keyonna Wesley, who scored 28 points. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Jeff Davis to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
