This season hasn't been kind to Paragon Academy, who are still winless after their ninth match. They were beaten by Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way 90-49 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Paragon Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way is ranked sixth).
Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but TJ Clark led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Clark pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Camren Houser, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Paragon Academy's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-9. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way, the win was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-1.
Paragon Academy will play host again and welcome East Valley Athletes for Christ, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against ASU Prep at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
