Baseball Recap: Middlesex Victorious

Middlesex came out on top against Phillips Academy on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. Middlesex walked away with a 7-3 win over Phillips Academy.

Andrew Reid spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luke Warzynski, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Middlesex: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Thomas Donahue was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Middlesex's victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Phillips Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middlesex will venture away from home to challenge St. George's at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Middlesex are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Phillips Academy, they will head out to face off against Phillips Exeter Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
