The Union City Soaring Eagles will head out to take on the Teaneck Highwaymen at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Union City made easy work of Hudson Catholic and carried off a 10-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Soaring Eagles in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won six in a row.
Union City got a great performance from Miguel Fillion as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Jayden Perez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run was his first of the season. Steven Roque was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Teaneck, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Garfield get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Highwaymen needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Saimon D'Adolf tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Teaneck got a massive performance out of Deyton Walcott, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Walcott is becoming a predictor of the Highwaymen's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jack Daniels, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Teaneck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Union City pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Teaneck, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
