Softball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Fairmont's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Fairmont hadn't beaten Beavercreek on the road since April 2, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Firebirds never let the Beavers get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Firebirds have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylee Sier and Jaylin Turner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sier pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Turner pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sier went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Turner went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three RBI gave Sier a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Russell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Hannah Perdue, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Fairmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fairmont has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Beavercreek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Fairmont and Beavercreek could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Firebirds (ranked 146th) will meet Lebanon (ranked 37th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Beavercreek will challenge Centerville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (375 vs. 178).
