Softball Game Preview: Centennial Coyotes vs. Ironwood Eagles

For the second straight game, Centennial will face off against Ironwood. The Coyotes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Centennial's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups.

Centennial made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Ironwood, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Coyotes were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over the Eagles on Monday. Considering the Coyotes have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Centennial got a massive performance out of Stephanie Olivas-Marrufo, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave Olivas-Marrufo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Anchondo, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-5.

Centennial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .390. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .390 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Centennial has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Ironwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .446. However, it's not like Ironwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .382. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
